Ingredients

  • 800g plain flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp active, dried, yeast
  • 250ml lukewarm water

Directions

1. Sift together the flour and salt into a bowl.

2. Mix in the sugar and yeast then form a well in the center and add the water.

3. Mix the dry ingredients into the water and mix to form a soft dough.

4. Turn out onto a lightly-floured work surface and knead well for about 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

5. Form the dough into a ball, place in a bowl, cover and set aside to rise for about 80 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.

6. After this time, knock the dough back then knead and divide into 12 equal-sized pieces.

7. Roll these into balls. Add the dumplings on top of any stew about 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time (re-cover the pot and continue cooking until done).
